A flower with a long history and many fond names, it was once called Flower Gentle and Flor Amor in Elizabethan times. It arrived in American gardens circa 1760 as Indian Branching Cockscomb. They grow lush in the summer heat and humidity, sprouting candelabras of vibrant chenille-textured blooms in mid-to-late summer with little care, and are wonderful cut flowers.
