Herb of Grace, or rue, was historically a potent herb that could vanquish scorpions and their venomous stings and make poison and the plague meek. It still carries a bit of that legend today, for it is an acrid scented herb that can cause welts to rise if mishandled by the unfortunate. But, on the other hand, it is singingly beautiful, with blue-green carefully arranged leaves and a shrubby form studded with gold coins of bloom. All it needs to reign in the garden is sharply-drained soils and a sun-drenched spot.
